This project featured partner Stephen Mesecke tackling the transformation from that of a four door V12 Lagonda saloon to a two door drop head coupé. Stephen used all of his experience to redesign the body commencing with the ash frame, which acted as a wooden buck to shape the body and also increased the integral strength of the car. Fabrication of the aluminium body necessitated manufacturing the doors and “rear-end” from scratch. For this Stephen used the shaping ability of the English Wheel, comprising a metalworking tool that enables a craftsperson to form compound (double curvature) curves from sheets of aluminium. Finally the convertible roof and hood frame was designed and built before the car was shipped to Europe for cosmetic finishing..
